[...and the gist of what I had wanted to say - in Malay - before the nerves and spotlight got better of me, and I started to speak in English]

Thank you very much.

I still remember 13 years ago when I first started work on this line. I was young, don't know anyone, was working hard and broke most of the time (...and still is sometimes). My office was at Tampines and often I miss the last train at Tampines mrt to go home. And I live in Jurong West.

The work was tough (and still is). Many times I felt like giving up. But I had the good company of likeminded peers and dedicated artiste friends who inspired me to work harder.

This (award) is for you guys. Thank you.

Looking back at 1988... Segaris Sinar "Constellations"

1988 Segaris Sinar "Constellations" from Sanif Olek on Vimeo.

A Simple Story That Gets The Deepest In You (ChannelnewsAsia, 8 July 2008)

SINGAPORE : Seven friends, seven stories, one ‘family’… MediaCorp’s new Malay drama “1988… Segaris Sinar” which focuses on timeless, universal themes of friendship and family is sure to tug at your heartstrings.

Boasting a stellar cast including Rafaat Hamzah, Melvinder Kanth, Nik Mikhail and Taufiq Salleh, the eight-part drama which debuted Monday on Suria, tracks the lives of seven bosom friends who grew up together in an orphanage and explores the love and camaraderie that binds them together as ‘family’.

They go their separate paths and reunite after 20 years. However, things are very different.

Constantly switching between the present (2008) and the past (1980s when they were kids), each episode sees award-winning director Sanif Olek carefully piecing together the individual stories of each member.

As they reflect on their growing up years, they realise how their problems today harks back to their days in the orphanage. But like before, they continue to gain strength from one another and seek inspiration from the glimmer of hope that their fragmented lives can offer.

“1988… Segaris Sinar” airs every Monday at 9.30pm on Suria.

Khilaf (OST Mentari II) music video

Theme song of the docudrama "Mentari II"

Title: Khilaf
Singer: Hairi Yusof
Composer: Mansoor Mohd
Lyrics: Zaharian Osman
Director: Sanif Olek
Video editor: Salimi Ahamadi

KHILAF

Andai masa putar
Andai masa berbicara

Andai tiba tika
Ku ketuk pintu tundukku pasrah

Masa merangkak
Ooh alpaku
KebesaranMu

Masa terus berlalu
Hanya aku termangu
Rentetan masa khilafku
Aku terpaku

Andai masa dapat ku putarkan
Akan aku ingat padaMu
Beri aku ketenangan
Beri aku kekuatan
Sebelum aku dijemput pulang

Masa merangkak
Ooh syukurku
AnugerahMu

Masa terus berlalu
Hanya aku menunggu
Tuntutan masa khilafku
Aku membeku

Andai masa hilang
Andai masa menjelang...

5 by 5

Video project commissioned by the National Museum of Singapore/National Heritage Board.

Description:
How does an aging 30 year-old neighbourhood face the competition amidst newer towns and fancy suburban heartlands?

That is the question answered by local director and producer, Sanif Olek in his film, '5 by 5'.

Makan! That's exactly what Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak serves in this neighbourhood to help keep Boon Lay ripe in the competition. Between the hours of 10am to 3am, this family-run gem from the humble hawker center has successfully satisfied nocturnal cravings with its traditional gastronomical servings, spicy enough to attract the crowd residing in the competition from different corners of the island.

Watch the buzz created by a combined scoop of the nasi lemak and a power stroke of the sambal belacan, making it very hard to bypass Boon Lay.
